Step-by-Step Installation

Before you begin, carefully read both your car seat’s manual and your vehicle’s manual. It’s important to understand the guidelines specific to your car seat model and the vehicle’s installation options.

When installing a rear-facing seat, place it in the back seat of your car. Use either the seatbelt or the LATCH system to secure the car seat, but never both at once. Pull the seatbelt tight or lock the LATCH system until the car seat doesn’t move more than an inch side-to-side or front-to-back.

For forward-facing seats, follow the same process, but make sure to attach the top tether strap to the vehicle’s tether anchor. This prevents the seat from tipping forward in a crash, adding extra protection for your child.

Common Mistakes to Avoid

Many parents unintentionally make installation mistakes that can compromise their child’s safety. Always double-check your work to avoid these issues.

Loose Seat Installation

A seat that moves too much isn’t secure. Always make sure the car seat doesn’t shift more than an inch in any direction.

Incorrect Harness Use

Ensure the harness is snug on your child’s shoulders, with no slack. The chest clip should be positioned at armpit level.

Wrong Recline Angle

For rear-facing seats, make sure the seat is reclined at the proper angle to support your child’s head and neck during the ride.
